Birmingham City F.C. - St. Andrews Ground

Club Formed in 1875

It is only in the last few seasons that the Blues have began to rid themselves of the tag of 'perennial under-achievers'.

Birmingham's history is littered with disappointments and near-misses, and 1963's League Cup success stands out not because they defeated arch-rivals Aston Villa in the final but because it remains the only time they have won a major trophy.

Promoted to the Premiership via a penalty shoot-out in 2002's Division One Play-Off Final after a 16-year absence from the top-flight, the Blues performed creditably last season and avoided the drop comfortably.

Backed by David Gold's millions, it remains to be seen whether they can match or beat their highest top-flight position (sixth in 1956), but at least they're finally getting closer...

Fact: Birmingham did not enter the FA Cup in 1921 as the secretary forgot to send the forms in!

Fact: Birmingham's record signing is David Dunn who signed from Blackburn in 2003 for 5.5million pounds.
