Club formed in 1883
Although the ground is beginning to show its age, it is still an enjoyable place to watch football, as the crowd are close to the playing action. The stadium used to have a large open terrace at one end, this has been replaced by t he East Stand, which is single tiered with a couple of supporting pillars. The other end is a two tiered stand that has an upper shelf that partly overlaps the lower tier.
The upper tier has supporting pillars. One side, The North Stand, is a two tiered stand again with some supporting pillars which could obstruct your view. Away supporters are housed in one side of this stand. On the other side of this stand is the single tiered Britannia Tyres (Main) Stand, which has a row of executive boxes running across the top of the seating area. All four stands are of fair size and are of roughly equal height.
The ground, although only having one corner totally filled with seating, feels quite enclosed as the stands are quite close together. On one side of the ACE Resources West Stand is a strange looking three storey structure, used for corporate hospitality. On the stand's other side is an electric scoreboard.
The ground does not have any floodlight pylons, instead having lights attached to the roofs of the stands.
